Restaurant Break-even Calculator
Break-even is the number of orders that covers the bills that arrive whether or not anyone eats: rent, salaries, subscriptions. Below it every day loses money; above it, each order's contribution is yours.
The formula, in the open
- Contribution per order = average order value × (100% − variable cost %). Variable costs are what each order consumes: ingredients, packaging, payment fees, delivery commission.
- Orders to break even = fixed costs ÷ contribution per order, rounded UP — a partial order pays no rent.
- Revenue at break-even = those orders × average order value.
If variable costs reach 100% of the order value, the calculator says plainly that no volume breaks even — more orders just lose money faster.
A worked example
₹1,80,000 of monthly fixed costs, a ₹450 average order, 65% variable costs: each order contributes ₹158, so break-even is ⌈1,80,000 ÷ 158⌉ = 1,140 orders, about ₹5,13,000 of revenue.
